1. Beginner Staff Workshop (Birth to 3 years)

This Workshop provides American Sign Language (ASL) training for professionals to be used in the infant/toddler environment.  The 3-hour workshop teaches ASL words tailored for the infant/toddler environment through the use of age-appropriate songs, games, stories and activities. This workshop will teach over 175 basic words covering the following topical areas:
  1. Alphabet handshapes
  2. Basic signs
  3. Family signs
  4. Animals signs
  5. Colors signs
  6. Emotions signs
  7. Food signs
  8. Greetings signs
  9. Action signs
  10. Shapes signs
  11. Textures signs
  12. Transportation signs

 

Workshop attendees receive the following materials:
1.   Informational Handout: Over 12-pages of activities, games and songs to get you started.  This handout also discusses the benefits of signing for all children and provides helpful hints on how to incorporate sign language into daily class routines.

 

2. Intermediate Staff Workshop (Birth to 3 years)

The Intermediate Staff Workshop is a follow-up to the Beginner Workshop with additional songs, games, stories and activities. The workshop teaches signs for the following topics:
  • Senses signs
  • Days of the week signs
  • Clothing signs
  • Directional/functional signs
  • Community helper signs

The workshop revisits the topical areas from the beginner workshop adding new activities and signs. Over 125 basic signing words are covered.
Workshop attendees receive the following materials:

  1. Informational Handouts that detail the benefits of signing for all children. The handouts also include songs in sign and guidelines for incorporating sign language into your daily routines.
  2. Music CD with children’s favorites used in the workshop.

3. Time to Sign Curriculum Training (Birth to 3 years)

This Workshop provides American Sign Language (ASL) training for professionals to be used in the infant/toddler environment.  The 3-hour workshop goes over 8 topics of our curriculum workshop teaches ASL words tailored for the infant/toddler environment through the use of age-appropriate songs, games, stories and activities. This workshop will teach over 200 words covering the following curricular areas:

 

  1. Basic signs
  2. Emotion signs
  3. Food signs
  4. Farm signs
  5. Garden signs
  6. Animals signs
  7. Home signs
  8. Family signs
  9. Transportation signs
  10. Holiday signs

Workshop attendees receive the following materials:
1.   Informational Handout: Over 20-pages of activities, games and songs to get you started.  This handout also discusses the benefits of signing for all children and provides helpful hints on how to incorporate sign language into daily class routines.

 

4. Parent Workshop – Beginner Workshop (Birth to 3 years)

American Sign Language (ASL) language training for parents and or caregivers to be used in the home.  This 1 ½-hour workshop teaches basic ASL words tailored for the home environment through the use of age appropriate songs, games, stories and activities.This workshop is designed to increase parent involvement. It includes the parent in their child’s sign language learning experience. Parents and children will learn over 125 signs giving them a fun and new way to communicate.This workshop teaches the basic signs from birth to 3 years, including:

 

  1. Alphabet signs
  2. Animals signs
  3. Emotions signs
  4. Family signs
  5. Manners signs
  6. Food signs
  7. Colors signs
  8. Household signs

Materials provided in the workshop: 
1.  Informational handout – 12-page handout with signs, 5-songs in sign, games and information on how to incorporate sign language into daily routine.

 

5. Ready, Set-Sign Classroom Management the Fun Way! (Birth to 3 years)

This presentation will discuss the educational advantages to teaching all children American Sign Language with a focus on creating an “inclusive” educational environment where children can learn, socialize and communicate.  This presentation is literally “hands-on” and will have you out of your seats, signing, singing, dancing and playing games!

 

  1. Sign language to get wiggles out (exercise to sign the fun way)
  2. Alphabet signs using animals (ABC to animals)
  3. Colors signs
  4. Emotions signs
  5. Greetings signs
  6. Sign language transitional, functional and directional phrases in sign
  7. Transition Songs and Signs (Clean up, Going Outside, Morning Routines)
  8. Songs in sign
  9. Stories in sign

Informational Handout: same above handout includes 10 pages of phrases in sign language to get you started in English/Spanish/Sign; and small ABC poster.

 

6. Literacy Workshop (School Age Children)

This workshop provides American Sign Language (ASL) training for professionals to be used in the infant/toddler environment to enhance early literacy.  The 3-hour workshop teaches ASL handshapes and words tailored for the infant/toddler environment through the use of age-appropriate songs, games, stories and activities. This workshop will teach over 175 basic words as follows:

 

  1. Alphabet signs
  2. Classic & new children’s songs
  3. Nursery rhymes
  4. Favorite stories
  5. Developmentally appropriate word signs

Workshop attendees receive the following materials:
Informational Handout: Over 12-pages of activities, stories, rhymes and songs to get you started.  This handout also discusses the benefits of signing for all children and provides helpful hints on how to incorporate sign language into daily class routines.

 

7. Customized Workshops
Time to Sign can individualize any workshop to suit your specific needs.
Professionals are available to assist you in designing the training that is right for you.

8. In-Class Coaching & Mentoring

Centers will receive one full day session at each site including a one-hour staff summary session. 
Consultant(s) will provide Time to Sign program coaching and modeling sessions directly with the children and staff in each classroom. In-class modeling/instruction time will vary by age (20-30 minutes) and rotate through all classes and aftercare programs throughout each site.
Consultant(s) will work with classroom staff to:

 

  • Heighten awareness and encourage sign language learning.
  • Support staff in practicing the activities they learned through Time to Sign training.
  • Increase familiarity and usage of the resource materials teachers received during and after the training.
  • Assist teaching staff in applying Time to Sign program instruction to daily activities including songs, greetings, use of manners, positive use of expressions and more.
  • The coach will be available to model and provide support to the classroom teacher(s).
